Exhibits › Artwork During Covid › Mandala 2020
A mandala is a geometric and symmetric style of Hindu and Buddhist art. Traditionally, it is used to focus and quiet the mind for contemplative spiritual practice.
The year 2020 has been marked by a convulsive Trump/Biden presidential campaign in the United States; an acrimonious "Brexit" of the UK from the European Union; raging wildfires all over the planet caused by global warming; and an ongoing coronavirus pandemic that has paralyzed economies and daily life worldwide.
These contemporary mandalas attempt to both express and contain the psychological terror of our times.
Technical Notes
The mandalas are created on 8x8 inch 100% cotton watercolor paper. The pigmented acrylic inks are lightfast. The abstract black & white patterns were xeroxed onto standard pulp paper. All adhesives are archival.
